Hi - From time to time you may see log report that Error-email was sent etc..

Does anyone know how this message is generated and which MTA is used to deliver email?

Does spamfilter itself connect to "From" person's MX host to notify /deliver NDR?

What If i run spamfilter behind proxy/firewall in which case spamfilter never sees actual IP of sender and email is rejected by spamfilter and spamfilter tries to generate an Error-Email, where does this Error-email go?

Appreciate any clarification. or better program specification for data flow would be nice.

Alex

Alex,

SpamFilter will use the MTA that is configured for SpamFilter's "destination SMTP server" to deliver the NDRs. The email address to which the NDRs are delivered is the address provided in the "MAIL FROM" command by the sender.

The "MAIL FROM" (the Return-Path) will be NULL per RFC to avoid loops. The "From" header will contain the value specified in the "Error Handler Email" string, which you canmodify under the "Settings - Customized Items" tab in SpamFilter.

Ok. I have a little wish. Can you make setting server:port like destination SMTP server but for NDR-mail? Because, for example, behind SF may working other filter.

SpamFilter can already have different destination SMTP servers for each local domain. However the NDRs are all sent using the default destination SMTP server.

Would it be a solution for you if the custom destination SMTP server for a domain (if a custom one is defined) was the one used to send the NDR rather than the destination SMTP server? This would be a rather simple change that could be included in the next SpamFilter build.

Just FYI

In most of our cases, default SMTP server of customer doesnot allow RELAY, so spamfilter NDRs are refused.

Thanks
