Is it possible or will it be possible in future releases to let Spamfilter use more than one DNS server?

I just experienced af DNS server breakdown with the result that Spamfilters MAPS, MX and SPF filter was out of function. Which again resulted in a lot of spam mail. Only active filter was in my case keywords and bayesian.

Best regards...

Torsten,

SpamFilter already *does* support multiple DNS Servers.

In the GUI just put as many servers as you want separated by commas.  Example
66.55.66.55,11.33.22.33

Regards,
Dan S.

Hi again.

Sorry, I've completely overlooked that.

After putting in a second DNS server, I wanted to test it, but I didn't get it to work as I thought it would though. The primary DNS was shutdown (Then It (SF) should use the secondary) but is doesent, It gives me a socket error resulting in no MX lookup and mails goes to the quarantine. Spamfilter is running on a Win2K3. BTW. the server itself IP conf. uses same Prim and Sec. DNS server. DNS lookups works on that when shutting down the primary DNS.

A bit from SF.ini:

dns=192.168.1.2,212.242.40.3

A bit from my SF log:

01-17-05 07:25:20:108 -- (660) Connection from: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  -  Originating country : Denmark
01-17-05 07:25:20:409 -- (660) Resolving xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - Error occurred during DNS lookup: Socket Error # 10054 Connection reset by peer.
01-17-05 07:25:20:409 -- (660) - Invalid MX record -
01-17-05 07:25:20:409 -- (660) xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - Mail from: xxx@xxx.xx To: xxx@xxx.dk will be rejected
01-17-05 07:25:20:579 -- (660) EMail from xxx@xxx.xx to xxx@xxx.xx was received and quarantined. Size: 1 KB, 1024 bytes
01-17-05 07:25:20:669 -- (660) Disconnect
01-17-05 07:25:21:160 -- (7568) Time to add Msg to Bayes corpus:139

Is it my or is there a bug n SF? (Running SF 2.1.2.395)

Best regards...

When DNS Fails, you should get an entry that looks like:

01/17/05 00:02:26:252 -- DNS Server will rotate after query. New server will be 66.181.192.10

Are you not seeing these?

Hi again.

Nope, sorry I don't. I just shutdown the prim DNS again. Sent 3 mails from the outside. Just keep getting:

Resolving xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - Error occurred during DNS lookup: Socket Error # 10054 Connection reset by peer.
01-17-05 07:51:56:061 -- (6736) - Invalid MX record -

Hmm ... I shut my primary and secondayr down and my third one does the job.  I do not understand the "Socket Error" bit.   Can you send me your address to daseligmann at hotmail dot com?  I will then try to send uou a message from my server to see what happens there.  I will be in fromt of my maching for another 30 minuts or so ... 2:00am here.

Dan
