Evandro,

I am sure that LogSat wouldn't "approve" my method but I run a scheduled task (perl) that gets the date, determines what the active file name is based on the date and then simply renames the current file to the full date/time format.  SpamFilter does not leave the log file open and only writes to it every 1 minutes so there is usually not a problem.  As soon as SpamFilter tries to write the next log entry, it finds that the log file is missing and creates a new one.

About once a month, I find that the rename failed so the next log is larger than usual but nothing "bad" happens so I can live with that.

Regards,
Dan S.

Evandro,

SpamFilter ISP writes to logs all the relevant information to keep track of what is happening to the mail being processed. This allows admins to, most of the times, figure out to what has happened and why when problems occurr. If there were less logging some of this information would be missing, and many users would have wished they had it when in need.

If disk space is an issue it is very easy to schedule a task in Windows to erase older logfiles that you do not wish to keep, we leave this option for the admins to manage at their discretion.
