Hi,

since this morning, our trusted SF server has been having major issues. hundreds of connections, VERY high CPU usage.

Tried running SF without AV enabled - all works fine.

Could it be a corrupt updates file? how can this be fixed

thanks

Amir

Amir,

Can you please zip and email us your SpamFilter's activity logfile for today, so we can scan it for any signs of problems?

Also, have you tried to re-enable the AV afterwards, in case there were other issues, and restarting SpamFilter had fixed them as well?

Hi Roberto,

will try and zip file and email. re-installing the AV has no effect. starting and stopping SFI has no effect either.

Amir,

Received your logs. There may be multiple problems.
Earlier in the day on the 19th you were using an older version of SpamFilter, v3.0.2.578. During that time we saw several "Access Violation" errors being logged.

Later in the day, at around 2:46PM, you upgraded SpamFilter to the latest official release, v3.1.3.597. Since that upgrade, the Access Violation errors stopped. This version does indeed fix many access violation-related problems, so it does appear to have helped.

However, later at night, we see a different kind of error related to the antivirus plugin. It usually occurs when the plugin files have not been installed correctly.

In regards to this error, could you please try to:

Stop SpamFilter.

Delete the SpamFilter\nse and SpamFilter\nvc directories.

In the registry, delete the key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Norman Data Defense Systems]

Reinstall the antivirus plugin, ***ensuring that you select SpamFilter's directory as the default install directory***.

Start SpamFilter

And see if that solves the antivirus problems? Also, the latest pre-release build available, v3.1.3.604, should solve a couple of issues that cause the number of incoming connections to "appear" high. If the problems persist, you may want to try upgrading to this latest pre-release (which we'll likely make an official release within the next 5-10 days).

Roberto,

Thanks for the reply and advice. this seems to have fixed the problem.

Will try the new release over the weekend.

Thanks,
Amir
