I just noticed something this morning. I had 3 messages come through spamfilter. and when I opened outlook it deemed two of them to be spam and they were. How does it determine this? And how do we make spamfilter work that well?

Kevin,

SpamFilter is blocking the bulk of the spam, and only lets a small percentage go thru. Outlook now has only a very small slice of spam emails to go thru, and it's very likely it will catch some that SpamFilter missed as the techniques used are different. Should you eliminate SpamFilter and let Outlook do the bulk of the work, you'll see that Outlook will miss many more spam emails than SpamFilter is missing now :-)

Well I just find it odd, I see some messages come through that get caught by IP or keywords, but then one will just slip past everything including the baysean filter. I just don't get it.

I even left my corpus at 30 days and its still not catching all the spam.

No spam filter is able to stop 100% of spam, some spam will slip thru with any product. Outlook uses different methids to stop spam, including using Microsoft's own statistical database that they update every few months. Unlike SpamFilter's, Microsoft's corpus is general and is not self-learning. But since it is different, it will catch some spam that SpamFilter misses, just like SpamFilter will catch a lot of spam that Microsoft would miss.
