logsat (all versions so far) are quite efficient in cpu resources, however, i notice some cpu cycles while the server is not connected to any network, logsat should remain quit i thought, however every 3-5 seconds it uses 10% of the cpu, on real small machines (k6-3 with 512mb ram) it can be up to 40% freezing the machine a litte for 1-2 seconds on cpu`s above 1ghz it is unnoticable. what is logsat doing then ?
just curious, -eric- |

Eric, Assuming there is no incoming email traffic, every 5 seconds SpamFilter issues queries to the database to see if there are any quarantined / web registration emails to be delivered. Every 60 seconds it reloads all the black / white lists, dumps the activity log to disk, refreshes the country statistics, checks the DNS servers to see which one is available. There are other processes going on, but those happen hourly. FYI - our main mail server is (purposely so, allowing us to test extreme cases) a very, very old 400MHz PIII, with a whopping 128MB of RAM. Roberto F.

ok thanks, i understand why this happens with 6+ txt files over 1mb.. :-) is the reload feature an option to schedule (say every 5-10-15-30-60) in a feature release ?

It wasn't planned but... you have a point, and may be a good idea. We've added it to the wish list. Roberto F. |
