I am running ver 1.1.0.80, and just received a bounce message that a customer of ours received when sending us mail. Let me know if you'd like to view my .ini file, and I'll e-mail it to you. Here's the bounce message...

----The following addresses had permanent fatal errors----

<user@domain.com>

(reason:557)

----Transcript of session follows----

...while talking to spamfilter.domain.com.:

>>>DATA

<<<557

554 5.0.0 Service unavailable

When the quarantine option is enabled, SpamFilter will receive the full email from the remote server. After it has been received, instead of sending a "250 OK" to indicate that the message has been received, SpamFilter will send the "557 here goes the explanation.." error message.

We have seen that some mail servers will not capture SpamFilter's description, will cut-off the reject reason right after the error number "557", and just add a generic "554 5.0.0 Service unavailable" for the reject reason.

This problem is not occurring if quarantine is disabled, as in that case, the error reject messages are sent to the remote server *before* the email is received. The only exceptio to this is the keyword content filter. For this, again the msg has to be received completely in order to scan it for keywords before it can be rejected.

We are doing research to identify the mail servers which behave this way so we can find a solution.
