We're having a problem with any email containing a decent sized attachement - ~2MB. Below is a copy of SpamFilter's log: 07/25/03 09:51:41:687 -- (740) Connection from: 216.136.129.186 - Originating country : United States Below is a copy of the logged SMTP conversation between SpamFilter and our mailserver: 220 mailserver.cywest.com WindowsNT SMTP Server v3.03.0017/3a.aaet/SP ESMTP ready at Fri, 25 Jul 2003 09:52:10 -0700 The SMTP conversation stops and hangs there. No more conversation. Intermittently, even though SpamFilter says that the messages has bounced because of this error, the message somehow gets through, however this is rare. Any ideas???? |

Cyrus, It must not be a generic issue because I just tested it in 2 directions mailing a 12M and then a 20M message and they went without a hitch ... Hopefully, LogSat Support can glean something from your logs. Sorry I can't do any better for now. Dan S.

Cyrus, We tried to reproduce the error without success. There is an option in the SpamFilter.ini file that causes all emails rejected because of delivery problems with the destination server to be copied to a separate directory. If you modify the spamfilter.ini file by adding the following line right under the [Server Settings] section: EnableBadMailDir=1 it will cause all such emails to be saved in the SpamFilter/BadMail directory. If you encounter the error again, the email that is causing it will be placed in that directory. If you can then email it to us we may be able to reproduce the error and fix it if possible. Thank you, Roberto. I modified the ini file as you have instructed and have a copy of the email that failed. What email address would you like me to email it to? I must warn you that it is not a specific email, attachment or sender that is causing the problem. I can recreate the problem simply by having an email sent with a large attachment size (over 1MB). Many times the email ends up getting sent after about 20min. or so despite the fact that an error has been sent to the sender, this only happens intermittently. Thanks again. |

The address is support@logsat.com. There should be two files in the badmail directory, an Indxxx.tmp and an Indxxx.tmp.rcpt, please email us both. Can you please also email us a copy of your SpamFilter.ini file, and let us know what version of SpamFilter you are using and what OS you are running (NT4/Win2K)? Thanks, Roberto |

No, I am still dealing with this problem. The issue was getting some attention, but then my posts stopped getting a response. I guess LogSat doesn't know what's going on either.

Cyrus, I looked back in my emails, but honestly cannot find anything from you containing the file(s) with the messages that cause the problem. If you emailed using a different address than on the forum I sincerely do not remember. If you can please forward us those files gain, and let us know what build you are using, we'll definetly take a look. Roberto F. |

Frank, I'm including part of our reply to one of these posts below. If you can send us those files we'll try to help. Roberto Franceschetti ===== If you modify the spamfilter.ini file by adding the following line right under the [Server Settings] section: EnableBadMailDir=1 it will cause all such emails to be saved in the SpamFilter/BadMail directory. If you encounter the error again, the email that is causing it will be placed in that directory. If you can then email it to us we may be able to reproduce the error and fix it if possible. ===== |

I did a little more checking and it seems (at least for me) that the problem
occured only when I accidentally sent my SMTP server in my e-mail client to use
the SFISP machine and was sending to domains other than my own.I am able to repeat the problem. After re-reading the initial problem posted to
the forum, I realize that this is not the same issue. Thanks for your help!\frank
