Sorry if this is a dumb question but when you release a new version, in the past ive just updated the .exe's. Do you need to update the .ini's? Dont they contain new configuration/features that the old .ini wont have in it? Or will the .exe insert whats needed after making a change? I recall the last time I updated, things got a little screwy. Thanks Edited by IKILLSPAM1 |

For most updates, we try to release a "binaries only" package. This zip usually contains simply the two executables, SpamFilter.exe and SpamFilterSvc.exe.
Some times, as is currently the case for the current update, the zip may contain other files that need to be replaced as well. Binary updates never (at least during the last 5 years..) contain any of the configuration files. All that is needed to upgrade with these distributions is to stop SpamFilter, replaces the files with the ones in the zip, and restart SpamFilter. Again, never a reboot... If you upgrade using the setup.exe installation program, all that does behind the scenes is the same thing. It will update the binaries and other files as needed, but never changing your configuration files. SpamFilter itself, upon startup, may migrate/change some settings from the ini files to account for new/changed settings and/or features. This was necessary for example in the SpamFilter 3.5 upgrade, as we employed a new directory structure and to ensure compatibility with SpamFilter Enterprise. |
