What are the optimal settings for it? I'm wondering if mine aren't set properly.

Sorry, this one slipped thru the cracks... The default settings should be fine in most of the cases. The threshold is best if it's somewhere in the 99.9% range, in the SpamFilter.ini file the value for "CleanUpCorpusIntervalDays" should be at its default of 7 days. You'll want the "learn new incoming emails" box in the GUI checked.
