Santa has been partying too much, delaying the beta for a couple of days... We've just released it, please see announcement in forum for more details.

Thank you everyone for your input. We've still have not solved all of the issues being reported, but hopefully we're now closer to an official release.

(funny post caratking)

Nice work Roberto, spliting the email and the memory errors were both "required" fixes to the initial beta.

Its great to see a product improve with beta feedback, nothing worse than investing time in testing to find that sugestions are ignored.  If only all software houses could be a this good!

Thanks!

PS: Don't forget to take some timeout yourself during the impending silly-season.  Fresh eyes can do wonders to a pile of grief giving code.

We've made a *lot* of internal changes to the beta, as there were just too many access violation errors occurring in high traffic scenarios. We've also implemented a brand new way to forward clean emails, so now SpamFilter is able to "split" emails that have multiple recipients, and handle the whitelisted ones separately without being forced to deliver a whole spam email addressed to both whitelisted and non-whitelisted recipients. We can now also forward the same email to multiple destination SMTP servers is the email has multiple recipients, and those recipients belong to multiple domains, and (finally!) those multiple domains have different destinatino SMTP servers.

All the "blah blah" above was to say that the delay in the new beta is because there was a lot of recoding to do...

But Santa should be able to find a new beta to distribute in time....

Dear Santa,

I've been a good boy all year, yes, really really really good!

For XMAS I only want one thing... can you bring me the latest version of SF Enterprise?

Please?  I've been really good.

Has anyone actually got this running on MS SQL 2000. Been trying off and on for 3 weeks but I keep getting all kinds of errors. Don't think this is ready for installation. Was really excited about seeing it work but no go

Tried that and I am getting syntax errors.

Yeap, modesty aside (), while we were developing, we were thinking "this is going to be really neat!".

We will give you a discount if you purchase 10 licenses !

I can answer my own question now.

It seems that it will pickup any new domain that is added, from any server.  So if you add a domain on one, any other server using the same database will pickup the new local domains.  Nice.

Ok, thanks.  That clears things up.

Next question, regarding enterprise.

If I have 10 SF Enterprise servers running (who knows, it could happen!) and I want to add a new domain.  Do I have to manually configure the domain initially on all 10?  Or will the 10 servers find the new configuration of the domain when they next connect to the database server?

If someone is running 20,000 domains and you have to manually enter the domain info. once on each server that could be a lot of work.

If a domain has the "Use Defaults" setting checked, then that domain will use all the settings defined under "ALL DOMAINS".

If a domain does not have the "Use Defaults" box checked, then it will use a set of custom domain settings. These settings are the ones showing when the domain is selected in the list, there are no settings being inherited from other domains. They will be mostly blank blacklists/whitelists by default. The beta currently allows you to copy the file-based settings to the domain currently being selected. In the future, we'll allow you to copy the settings from any other domain to the one currently being selected.

Roberto,

I am wondering if you can further explain this:

.\Domains\ ALL DOMAINS - contains all settings for domains in SpamFilter Enterprise that have not been customized.

I've been working with a handful of domains, and keywords with the beta edition.

In most cases, I want the same keywords in the keyword file for every domain.  If V1AGra is on the list for one, I probably want it on the list for all.

Based on the description above, it sounds like if there is no keyword list defined for a domain then it will automatically use the keywords in the All Domains keyword file?

Also, for clarification what does the Use Defaults checkbox do?

Until last year our own production mail server was an old P3, 400MHz, 384MB RAM. We were receiving about 15,000-20,000 emails/day, with an average CPU load of 30%. We upgraded recently... but not for performance reasons!

I don't think your server will sweat that much with the traffic you estimate

As you may have noticed, we try to keep very simple in all our processes. We try not to advertise this, as of course we'll loose money, but yes, if you purchase before SFE is released, the upgrade will be free.

Very cool.

So far (48 hours into it) I love it!  I will be registering shortly, once I have all the DNS migrated to my satisfaction.

Don't know if you caught the specs on my server, but just in case: it's a P4 3.0 ghz WITH 1.0 gB RAM running Windows 2000 Server.  I have about 200 domains and about 1000 users, and probably about 75,000 messages per day (just an estimate).  The machine also acts as a web server.  Do you see any issues with either the current version or the Enterprise version, when available?

Future plans are to purchase another box and split the mailserver and web server between the two, just in case...

Looking forward to the Enterprise version for the domain-specific settings.

Just so I understand this correctly...

I just installed the free eval version a couple of days ago, and will be registering it once I have moved all 200 domains and verified that my server can handle the load (Windows 2000 Server, P4 3.0 Ghz, 1.0 Gb RAM).

Does this mean that the Enterprise version will be a free upgrade when the final version is released?

Yes, Without quarantine the mails just forwarded to related domain - specified email id. Result is lowest rate of false positives.

I was assuming that space2host's suggestion was in relation to the message types that are rejected without going to quarantine.

space2host, our customer's manage their rejected mail through the Quarantine web interface. Works great!

Sorry if I am not understanding you correctly and stating the obvious here. :-)

I like that idea as an option space2host.

Some of our customers would want to and some would not.

Dear Roberto,

Consider this suggestion in Enterprise version.

Instead of rejecting SPAM mails at Gateway level, that should be forwarded to some email ids belongs to that domain. So that domain admin can manage the entire mails (like bulk mail folder option in hotmail/yahoo etc.)

Thanks for all the reports. We won't be able to make it for Nov 26, but a new beta will definetly be released within a few weeks. There's several reports we're trying to address, and it's taking some time.

Roberto,

Any plan for another beta release?  Can we see anything by November 26th?  That will be one month of testing with your first beta release.

I found another issue today with it (not sure if I posted it before or not)

When editing keywords on the blacklist, it seems most logical to hit the save setting button that is showing there.

It does not save the keywords file (not sure what it does on that screen actually).

If you want to save the keywords, you must click onto one of the other domains and it will then prompt you if you want to save the changes.

If I make changes, click Save Settings (logical), and then close, nothing is actually saved to the keyword file.

Rifleman,

The MySQL table creation is still a buggy process. If you're having trouble creating the tables with SpamFilter, we suggest running the SpamFilter\database\MySql-Enterprise.sql script directly within MySQL to see if it completes successfully (again after deleting the SpamFilter Enterprise Tables before running it).

M

We do quarantine the spam mails, we just don't use the SF quatrantine DB. Instead, we get SF to tag all mail and deliver it to a downstream smtp server where we do more processing.

I don't mind having SF use a database for all config stuff, in fact it would be much easier for us if it did, I was just concerned when I saw that having the quarantineDB was a requirement in order to get the extra features.
