Topic: Spam Filter HelpPosted: 26 May 2006 at 2:48pm |

I am the IT help desk assistant here @ my job and we were thinking about purchasing this software to help get rid of the spam on our emails.
We have 3 servers but only one of them is set for our exchange. That one server is running windows 2000 server with exchange 2000... I would like to know how simple would it be to install this software on our server. and the instructions to install on the server so that I can see if I can do it. someone please help... the biggest thing I would like to know is how do I change the ports of the exchange server from its default of port 25 to 26 so that I can get the software connected to port 25 to forward the email to port 26. Is this process as easy as you guys say... becuase We have over 50 users set up to the server for there emails and they would be really MAD if I crashed there emails... that is jus my biggest fear... any help would be appreciative... |

Charles, I am A novie at this stuff as well and I can hoestly say that this software is easy to install and pretty well works out of the box. I would recommand running it on another computer (other than your exchange server so that in the worst case you can just reroute email back to exchange server. Heres what you need to do. (this takes like 5 mins) Install spam filter server on a workstation (mine is on a P3 W2K workstation). In the configuration window of spam filter point it to your exchange server. at this point nothing has happened. now just logon to your firewall and point port 25 to the spamfilter workstion. Email will immediately start flowing through to it and from it to the exchange server. Note that this is a simplistic instruction guide and you should refer to logstats readme's for detailed instructions. I have only written this to illistrate how easy it really is to setup |

To avoid messing with the firewall i would suggest changing the mail servers' IP to another free internal IP and give the spamfilter box the original mail servers' IP, and make it forward the mail to the echange servers new IP. If anything goes wrong with the SF box, simply return to previous settings and everything will work as before.
