My mother send me a message, and it bounced back.  Here is the bounce she got back.

Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:

 Recipient address: changed@domain.com
 Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address
 Diagnostic code: smtp;557 You are not allowed to send mail to changed@domain.com
 Remote system: dns;s1.the-internet.com (TCP|10.0.120.96|58083|66.111.177.147|25) (mx1.the-internet.com --- SpamFilter SMTP Server v3.1.3.594)

Of course, I wanted to figure out the reason as it is not clear in the above message.  There was nothing quarantined, and absolutly nothing in the log on the server relating to this attempted delivery (based on the sender or receiver email address).

How can that be?  I must be missing something.

The Rejection message 557 You are not allowed to send mail to

Can be caused if:

The domain "domain.com" in the above example is not in the list of your "Local Domains" in SpamFilter

You are using an AuthorizedTO whitelist to specify the users who are allowed to receive emails, and the address "changed@domain.com" is not in that list

The address ""changed@domain.com" has a percentage sign "%" somewhere in the "changed" side of the address.

In all cases however, there should be a log entry for this event showing both sender and recipient email addresses.

If you can zip us SpamFilter's activity log for the day this happened, along with the full bounce email your mother received (complete with headers), we'll try to take a look.

Yep, sure enough.  I defined the email address mailto:changed@domain.com - changed@domain.com in my allowed email list, but never defined the domain as a local domain.

The amazing thing is how long it has been this way and no one mentioned it before.  Perhaps the messages were making it though to me via the backup server so I never noticed.
