Hi,
Just noticed another error in the log file 07/06/06 11:49:44:921 -- (22016) EMail from: name@good-domain.com to: user1@local-domain.co.za, user2@local-domain.co.za was returned to sender - server error - Read Timeout The local-domain.co.za is situated on the same lan as SFI. one hop away. There are very little errors like this, but it would point out that at one stage SFI was unable to connect to the local network, or that the other server was not available. Both situations have been checked for, and both servers where found to be online all the time. questions are: - Can the timeout for delivery be specified? where? - Is there a setting where we can specify number of retries for the delivery? Maybe based on error codes? for example: an email comes in to SFI, SFI tries to deliver, gets an error server not available, then logs the time, keeps the email in the queue, and retries after a set amount of minutes, which we should be able to specify, if the email was not delivered after set amount of retries then return to sender. Thanks Amir |

UPDATE:
I found the entry in the ini file which says: ;Number of hours SpamFilter will retry to deliver messages in queue to your destination SMTP server if it was unreacheable. Enter 0 to try forever until back online. ExpireRetryQueueHours=72 From what I can see SFI will retry to deliver if it couldn't make a connection to the destination server, but if it times out with that server, it sends a NDR. Is there another setting, similar to the above, which relates to timeouts? Thanks Amir |

Amir,
The "Read Timeout" error should be the reponse that SpamFilter receives from your destination SMTP server when SpamFilter attempts to forward emails to it. It is not a timeout within SpamFilter, but rather the error message that SpamFilter receives during the SMTP transaction. I say "should" because we have not been able to replicate this scenario. Is this something you can reproduce, or does it happen sporadically? |
