I have the current version New SpamFilter ISP v2.7.1.515 official, but it freezes from time to time and I am forced to re-start the SpamFilter service every 4 hours. We are a very small shop and receive ~1000 emails/day. OS: Windows 2003 Web Edition SP1 with 2GB memory and dual CPU Edited by Benny |

There's nothing. Here's a copy. After the 01/13/06 15:12:18, it simply stopped logging until I stopped and started the service 01/13/06 15:11:19:415 -- (572) Blacklist cache - starting cleanup |

I didn't find any. It didn't crash. It just freezes, shows up as "not responding" and won't accept any mails.

Benny,
Can you please zip us the whole log? Previous entries (even hours prior) may contain clues or errors which could help us. Should it happen again, if SpamFilter's GUI is visible and the activity log is displayed, could you verify what the last entries on screen are? As the logs are written to every 60 seconds (or when there's an error) there may be more displayed on screen than in the logs. For testing purposes, could you also please modify the following entry in the SpamFilter.ini file to: RealtimeDiskLogging=1 this will cause SpamFilter to save the logfile after every line is added so that we reduce the chance of missing entries in case of errors. Please also change the following to: EnableDBGLogs=1 To create more debug logs. They will be in the logfile directory, and will be named "dbg_something.log". We'll need to see the main logfile and the debig logs if it crashes after this changes. |

Benny,
The log you sent is for the 19th, while the one you posted is from the 13th, so we cannot locate the restarts you refer to. However, looking at your logs from the 19th, we see two entries that show SpamFilter being shut down. This is not a crash, but rather SpamFilter's service being stopped (by a user or an application): 01/19/06 02:34:01:054 -- Shutting down all threads. Please wait up to 15-20 seconds.... 01/19/06 04:34:00:126 -- Shutting down all threads. Please wait up to 15-20 seconds.... Please look at the timestamps, they are *exactly* two hours apart, indicating that it is very likely that an application is stopping SpamFilter's service on a regular schedule. Can you please examine your server to see why that is occurring? If these "3rd party" shutdowns are not the ones you refer to, and SpamFilter "freezes" at other times, unrelated to these events, can you please upgrade to the latest build available (517) so that we can proceed with the troubleshooting? |

Roberto, I put a note in the log file indicating the time of the "freeze"!! The shutdowns every two hours are on-purpose as it freezes too often. I wrote a script to reset it every two hours and I want the service to be interrupted for no more than 2 hours should a freeze occurs. |

Sorry, but in 5,000 lines of logs we were looking for system errrors, and not a "human" note :-)
Now that we know what to look for, it's easier. From the last log then, when it froze, it appears you clicked on the "Save Settings" button 3 times within 30 seconds, and the freeze occurred right after the 3rd. Could you then zip us your SpamFilter.ini file, along with all your local blacklist/whitelist files? It's possible that one of your specific settings is causign this to occurr, and we'd need to reproduce them. What about the other crashes? Were you actively using SpamFilter's GUI when it froze? |
