We've been following the comments on the thread The new official release of SpamFilter v2.0 is available carefully. As stated there, we've always tried to make it clear that upgrades were free for all releases that were not "major" upgrades from v1 to v2. There have been cases, as George Forsyth demonstrated, that in the eager of responding to emails as fast and efficiently as possible, that policy was left out since it did not seem relevant to the context of the email. I apologize for that, and we will handle those on a case by case basis.

This new version was released to the public with an increase in the sales price of $200. The retail price increased from $400 to $600 per license. We thought it was fair to charge an upgrade cost equal to the difference in price. If a license was purchased 3 months ago, or tomorrow, the cost will always be $600. Please note that this also means that the upgrade is offered with a 66% discount on the sales price.

We do value everyone's opinion however, and reading all the comments and emails received have caused the following changes to occur:

  • All customers who purchased a SpamFilter license on or after December 1, 2003 are entitled to a free upgrade to SpamFilter v2.0. Their original purchase price will allow 1 year of updates starting form the original purchase date.
  • All customers who purchased a SpamFilter license on or after September 1, 2003 and before December 1 2003 can upgrade for $120. The update price will include (and is actually equal to) 1 year of software maintenance starting from the day of the upgrade.

All customers who purchased SpamFilter upgrades today, and would have received either a free upgrade or a discount per the above changes, will immediately receive a refund.

We will be changing the website shortly to include and account for the above changes.

While we know that even with these changes we are bound not to have happy customers (who would be happy to pay for software...), please understand that we try our best to obtain a balance in price/quality.

Very well stated LogSat...

We were planning to and will be sticking with SpamFilterISP as our choice in a Spam Filter solution. The support is excellent in comparision with others out there.

Only reason we have yet to purchase the upgrade is time needed to for me to locate the cooperate credit card information and approval. I should have this done by the end of the work day tomorrow!

Thanks again,

Sean

still a small price for a great produkt, without it, most companies lose that amount in a week in useless user-spam-read time....

compared to other less effective products, really cheap.
