I'm just want to confirm is it ok to use a domain name in the Excluded Domain/IP whitelist?

So could my list look something like this example :--


Its the * bit I am unsure about.

I know the IP's work like you have listed, and I often use the domain as well but I have never tried with the * like that.

For one customer we recently did one for yahoo groups like this:

That works for email from yahoo groups, no * was needed in front.
