I am attempting to stop some PDF documents.  We are seeing more PDF attachments that contain links to things like bit.ly.

Seems that keyword filters do not pickup the text in PDF documents.

I am going to try and attach a PDF document (can't find a way to send an attachment here) that is like what I am trying to stop.  It is not graphic in nature so I thought the system would be able to scan the text quite easily.

Going through the old release notes, I do find that keyword scanning of PDF was removed in build 3.5.4.702 but that was more than 10 years ago now.

What is the current status?

Sorry yapadu - after being removed in 3.5.4.702, the PDF scanning capability has not been introduced again. I do not have an answer as to whether this feature will be re-added or not.

Out of curiosity, what was the issue with this feature, Roberto?

We had some reliability issues with the PDF library we were using - it was causing too many access violations that would cascade and in turn cause SpamFilter to sometimes crash. Unlike other libraries we license where the source code is available to us (allowing us to debug and fix the issue), in that case there was no source code and thus no way for us to resolve the crashes. As spam via PDFs at that time had also greatly reduced in quantity, we opted to simply drop the functionality...
