Hello all - I'm almost certain I've seen a post that mentioned this, but I can't remember the outcome, nor can I seem to find it!

A while back per domain configs were mentioned, probably in the early days of SFE, and somebody said something like if you wanted to set a per domain whitelist, you'd have to setup a per domain config (ie, don't use defaults). The problem with this is lets say in future you wanted to change the MAPS server you used or any other setting globally, you'd have to re-apply those same changes to all the domains that have per-domain configs.

When this was brought up last time (which I'm sure it was??), what was the outcome?

Thanks.

You're right, I remember the discussions as well, but unfortunately I don't have the answer you'd like. If a domain is customized, it will have it's own, independent settings, and any change made to the "default" ALL DOMAINS will not be propagated down. We may in the future implement an "inherit defaults" for each individual black/whitelist, but that is currently not possible right now.

Ah, yeah, an inherit settings would be a good option!

That answer wasn't what I was hoping for, but is what I was expecting Smile

How do others day by? I presume some of you have customised scripts that make the job of propagating global settings easier?

We've just been writing scripts to update all our domains or using the SQL Query tool in MS SQL. Same with for example blacklist keywords, we have a form setup that propagates the blacklist keyword to all domainid's > 1 .

Everytime we add a new domain  we have a script that copies all the fields from the default template and there it gets populated with common (to all) bl keywords, bl ips, bl countries.

In our customer control panel we have scripts that update things like SFE authorizedto tables everytime a domain/user is added to the mail server.

Now its pretty much hands off but was a lot of work to setup.

It would be nice if there were a way to designate on a per domain basis whether a particular test (liks SURBL) should be custom or shared default of domainid 1.

Also, when doing a LOT of per domain, be aware the load times increase a bit when starting up SFE as its got to compare all its tables to whats in the txt files on your server. Another area where commn default settings could save tons of time as default setting like bl keywords, ip's,countries etc would not have to be checked for each domain which could be considerable if you had 1000 domains or more.
