I am on version 2.7.1.514 and am seeing a curious spf issue.  When I look up oregoniron.com with ip address 209.63.16.2 I get a softfail and the mail is blocked coming in (we block softfails).  However when I do the same thing on http://www.dnsstuff.com - www.dnsstuff.com I get a pass on the same sender.

this is what oregoniron.com has in the dns table....is there an error here?

Domain Type Class TTL Answer
oregoniron.com. TXT IN 3600 "v=spf1 mx a:209.63.16.2 ~all"

I'm afraid that oregoniron.com has an incorrect SPF record, and that dnsstuff.com is not performing the correct tests.

I believe if oregoniron is trying to allow the IP 209.63.16.2 to send emails, they should use the "ip4:" directive, not the "a:" one.

You can double-check with the official SPF site for an explanation on why the email is being rejected:

http://www.openspf.org/why.html?sender=a%40oregoniron.com&ip=209.63.16.2&formwasused=1&debug=0 - http://www.openspf.org/why.html?sender=a%40oregoniron.com&am p;ip=209.63.16.2&formwasused=1&debug=0

If an email had originated from one of their mx servers, for exampel 209.63.16.81, then it would have passed the SPF test as seen here:
http://www.openspf.org/why.html?sender=a%40oregoniron.com&ip=209.63.16.81&formwasused=1&debug=0 - http://www.openspf.org/why.html?sender=a%40oregoniron.com&am p;ip=209.63.16.81&formwasused=1&debug=0
