Hello,

Once thing I noticed is spam that is addressed to and from our domain get through everytime.

We  don't want to turn on spf yet,
what I would like to do is have a text file with domain e-mail server sender's IP.

EG:  microsoft.com 64.24.65.39;64.24.65.39.65
So it would only allow mail from microsoft.com from the above IP address.

It would also be nice to have this feature run before the white list

thanks

Danny

Danny,

What you are asking for is really what SPF whas designed for.  Why do you not want to use it?  I really does help ... in spite of the issues it causes.

Hi Dan,

Mainly because SPF is still in its infancy and it seems that all or nothing is a bit extreme, not to mention the forwaring issues from larger ISP's

But your right, what I want is  SPF turned on for selected domains

It just seems easier to give me a text file so I can do it manualy

Regards

Danny

Sorry Danny, I do not think we'll be implementing that feature, at least not now, as it is basically a "manual" SPF filter. As you'd be manually adding the IP addresses that you wish to receive emails from, at this point I believe that you will obtain the same result by turning on the SPF filter, and then manually adding those same IP addresses above to an IP whitelist.

Danny, you can add trusted IPs to your "Whitelisted IP list", and affected domain in "Local Domain Blacklist" - IP list is checked first and as long as Microsoft's servers are not hacked by spammers you'll be OK :) .

Nevertheless, I assure you - the SPF thing is really good and safe - everyone should start to use it ASAP for it's own domains and mail servers. If you are afraid - you can quarantine only FAIL events and pass SOFTFAIL - it should give you 0% of false positives.

Logsat,

I understand, (read on)

Roman,

Excellent Idea,  it does not help for spammers using our own domain which is my primary concern for this request.

I was not looking to do this for every mail server that we receive mail from, just our own domains without turning on SPF.

We receive e-mail from our domain via a number of automated systems coming from our Internet DMZ which passes through our spamfilter. When our users receive spam from our domain gives the spam some legitimacy and confuses our users.

Maybe to revise my request,  when setting up spamfilter it wants our local domains defined, maybe we can add IP addresses for authorized servers for the local domains.

This would guarantee no spammer could use our domain to send us mail.

Does this make sense?

Danny
