When email received for user who is not in AUth_TO list, but in our domain, how come spamfilter sends a 577 Relaying is restricted!!!

instead of something meaningful or useful like 5.5.0 or 5.1.1

#5.1.1 smtp;551 5.1.1 user does not exist

#5.1.1 smtp;551 5.1.1 The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to

#5.5.0 smtp;550 Invalid recipient:

spamfilter says <<557 You are not allowed to send mail to mailto:abcd@xyz.com - abcd@xyz.com Relaying is restricted. Your email cannot be delivered. Disconnecting...

IS 5.5.7 RFC correct for this instance???

Any clarification will be helpful

Alex

Alex,

SpamFilter will reject emails where the recipient is not in the "AuthorizedTO" list using the same erroro code and message used for the "Relaying denied" refusal.

By default, the message is:

557 You are not allowed to send mail to %EMailTo%

Which is very appropriate. Please not that users can customize the message (from your post it appears it has been modified) as they wish.
