I was going from the date you joined the forum Feb 2005. I wouldn'thave said anything otherwise. It perfectly right that you should testit, 'along side' any exsisting infrastructure.

In otherwords are you reliant on it as part of your main email system, which is "yes".

If you are testing it as a backup MX, which is how I tested it, that isfair enough because your primary MX is running on the usual system (andgetting the spam too) and the "trail" has no impact on your generalrunning of the email system. If you are using it as a live system....

Actually, I am intrested in how people did their own testing ofspamfilter when they trailed it. Mine was quite complex, in order toavoid any impact, I ran it as a second MX, (because all MX get spam notjust the primary), to test geniune emails I had to setup an addional'test' domain with the primary MX (sftest.mydomain.com) as thespamfilter and then muck about a bit with configs so email sent to thatdomain ended up at my email box. When I was happy it was easy to switchover.

Nowdays I don't really test new releases of spamfitler, as the releasestend to be stable. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite me.

Usually most applications offer 30-day trials. Our records show that you've been "testing" it since August 2004...

We make available the full-featured SpamFilter to all users, forunlimited use in a test scenario so they can evaluate it and not worryabout expirations and/or limitations. As there will always be users who(partly maybe because SpamFilter works so well they forget it'sthere...) will use it in their live environment, we do not release the"free" version as often as we do the registered version. This is ourway to offer a "reminder" to license their copy if it's being used in aproduction, live site. Sometimes thefree release is a few months and several bugs away from the latestversion available to licensed users. This is the case with the latestbuild 2.5.2.

Sorry, that version is only available to registered users. The newSURBL filter featured in the latest 2.5.2 versions is working wonders,above expectations and will in the future be released in a free buildto test. come on, buy it. If you are running a business behind it, then there isno excuse. $600 is worth having the support and the lastest version.

You know, if you are running a business email system behind it, thenreally, you should consider your postition, after all I would not likemy boss to reliase that the gateway to the email system reliant on thegood will of the developer of the software, because I didn't pay for it.

It easy to make a business case for it, just use the stats from thetrail and say that it has reduced the help required to fix spam relatedproblems. Make sure she/he knows that now you have asked him/her to getthe support for this by buying it. Even if he/she doesn't go for it,you are now in a better postition, by just having emailed the request(got it in writing, you see). for more hints read BOFH.

You know, maybe Roberto could put up some sample business cases for thesoftware, if you are having trouble get the purchase authorised. Orsome of us could help out, with the ones we used.
