We don't currently see having SpamFilter checking for RFC compliance with the headers... it. Just like you said, nobody really knows what the real compliance is, there are too many variants out there.

Hi Roberto, we aren't concerned about SpamFilter choking on the malformed or corrupt email headers, we are more interested in how spam filter deals with them.

If they have no effect on spam filter that is great, but if spam filter quarantines them that would be even better.

In theory I guess a malformed or corrupt email header should not conform to the RFC in some way, but of course one never knows exactly how.

As a general rule SpamFilter does not work on or alter email headers (to be clear, the ones sent after the DATA command). It simply looks ar the "MAIL FROM:" and "RCPT TO:" smtp commands and applies filtering rules to them.

We have seen cases where emails with malformed headers are being rejected by the destination smtp server because of their corruption, but so far SpamFilter has not chocked on any (that we know of!). If you had an example we could test it.

Hi, just a quick question. Does SpamFilter ISP deal with malformed or corrupt headers? I see the % sign filtering, and the ! handling, but what does the product do when it receives a malformed or corrupt header related to some other problem? If it can't read the header does it quarantine it by default?

Not exactly clear on the type of malformation or corruption so please consider this a general question. We have had webshield hang and back things up because of corrupt headers, and would like to know if Spamfilter ISP will help in this area along with all the other great stuuf it does!
