The default filter settings SpamFilter comes with are the typical settings administrators will use. They are pretty much the same ones we use ourselves (we're running an ISP as well).

You can find a very extensive list of MAPS servers at http://moensted.dk/spam/ along with another a user submitted to this forum at http://www.sdsc.edu/~jeff/spam/Blacklists_Compared.html

Should all MAPS server go down at once will not cause a problem. If no response is received from a MAPS server, SpamFilter will simply assume that the connecting IP is not blacklisted. The IP triggers a positive match only if the MAPS response indicates it's blacklisted.

Thanks for your previous replies. I need few clarifications from you about SpamFilter's Functionality.

1.      Our mail system is slightly affected by spam mails in the recent times and we are evaluating SpamFilter. So we do not know to set the exact MAPS search Value in Spam Filter for rejecting the mail. I would like to request you to suggest the best match recommended for Email Service Provider environment like us.(Ours is basically a Mail domain like yahoo and Hotmail).

2.      The Spam Filter tool has 5 domains listed in GUI for MAPS search, where can we find some other domains to add to the list? and which MAPS search we have to give more important while bouncing the mail. also when i give a Value 2 for MAPS search will the spam filter scan all the 5 domains or only the first two records according to the order mentioned in SpamFilter GUI.

3.  This dobut looks a bit funny but lets suppose all the domains listed for MAPS search are down at a time and the SpamFilter tries to MAPS search for every email client connection. Will be a particular mail accepted in case of MAPS search failures or rejected?
