Client is running an old version of SP. Version 2.1.2.395

It runs fine as an application. We cannot get it to run as a service.  We stopped the application first and then tried to start the service so port 25 would not be busy, but no luck. Error 1067, the process terminated unexpectedly.

Any idea how to get the service to start ok?

Can you please post SpamFilter's activity logfile at the time you started the the service? It should report the errors it is encountering at startup.

Robert,
No log.
Did the following:
Stopped SF app
removed the logs(made a copy actually and deleted the original)
in services, attempted to start SF service
got the error msg mentioned.
Looked in \program files\spamfilter\logfiles
there were no new logs :(

Did I look in the right place for the log you requested?

Yes, that is the correct directory. However that SpamFilter's version is several years old... and may have problems in logging if the errors occur on startup.

Could you ensure the SpamFilter service is started with an account that has the proper rights (usually SYSTEM will work), and that the box that allows the service to interact with the desktop is checked?
