Question... We don't have an internal DNS server; thus, we use our ISP-provided DNS server. I would like to turn on the DNS query function to block mail from those who do not have a valid reverse DNS entry. But if I enable this, none of our internal folks will be able to send mail as their IP is not reversable. So my question is, how do I get around this without setting up a DNS server. Is there an option to exclude or not query friendly (local) hosts that I define?

Thanks.

Tou,

he answer to this is related to your other posting about relaying. Your internal customers will not be able to use SpamFilter as their "outgoing smtp server" to relay their emails to the outside by default. The only way for you to allow this is to add their IP to a whitelist. If you do that though, they will bypass all filtering rules, including the reverse DNS checks, so you will not have to worry about reverse DNS filtering for them.

Thanks again, Roberto. I will give this a shot tonight. It didn't seem to work yesterday so I took the SpamFilter offline, but will give it a try again. If this solves my problems, then LogSat will be $600 richer very soon. Thanks again.

If you want to email us the whitelist files and your SpamFilter.ini files, along with what IPs you want to allow to relay and any errors you are receiving we may be able to help you get it to work.. with less work on your end!
