Are *all* messages being forwarded to "IP" having the same "Read Timeout" problem, or does this occurr for only some of them?

Usually the "Read Timeout" indicates that the remote server where the emails are being forwarded to has stopped responding. Is there any useful information in the logs for the mail server at "IP"?

Could you post the prior lines for the errors above, that contain the same thread ID for those messages. Those are the number in parenthesis - (1976) and (1396). There should be some entries either in the preceding milliseconds or preceding minutes.

Roberto

Running 678 in E mode.  I am getting quite a few (10-20 per day) of messages sutck in the queue folder with a readtimeout error when I try to flush.  Usually, the messages are from the same domain, are spam, and are being sent to the same mail server.  The mail server is not doing filtering of any type.  Mail server operator reports that the messages do not follow RFC rules.  If this is the case, why would the spamfilter be accepting them?   To this point, I have just been deleting them and blacklisting the sending domains.  Where do I start to troubleshoot?

SpamFilter will try to accept emails even if they're not RFC compliant, as there's quite a bit of legitimate emails out there that is not 100% compliant...

There are a few options in the SpamFilter.ini files you can tweak to see if they can help:

;Determines if SpamFilter should remove from the queue emails that could not be delivered to the destination SMTP server due to a "Read Timeout" (an NDR is sent if the email is removed from the queue)

DoNotQueueIfReadTimeout=false

;Determines if SpamFilter should hold in the queue emails that were rejected by the destination SMTP server with an error in the 4xy range
QueueIfDestinationError400=true

;Determines if SpamFilter should hold in the queue emails that were rejected by the destination SMTP server with an error in the 5xy range
QueueIfDestinationError500=false
