All,

Anybody have a comprehensive list of URL's and / or links that they are willing to share?  I am building my own SURBL so that I can add entries "on the fly" rather than having to wait until they show up on the multi.surbl.org  list.

What is the benefit in adding URLs to your own
SURBL list instead of your own keyword-list?

Good question, and the answer is specific to our application or management philosophy.
  • First, we have many SpamFilter servers but only control the keywords for our mail server. Using an SURBL list give our customers the benefit of our "discovered" Spam URL's with out them having to do anything to their filters.
  • Second, we like to keep our keyword list short and simple and it is mainly used only to filter "obfuscation" or, in other words, we use the keywords to detect attempts to "scramble" messages.  We have nearly zero actual "words".
  • Third, using TXT records in DNS, we can Date/Time stamp the added entries
  • Forth, also using TXT records, we can add a link for the end user to see when, and in some cases why the entry was added.
Most of the zone file creation is done from ASP driven Perl Scripts that any of our support staff can put data into to add a url and the rest is automatic based on what check boxes the support person checks so it is fast to add and remove entries.
